I thought that I might use “it” to refer to a country as I considered a country as a thing, but I have seen where “she” was used to refer to a country. Help me with this because I don’t know the correct pronoun to use.

the correct pronoun for word country is SHE because country is considered as mother
I think that those who use “she” are considering the country as mother. They were born and grew up there, simply they refer the country to a mother who brought up them. Generally, I can say that the use of “she” in that case is figurative/ metaphorical/not literal. Grammatically, we use “it” to refer to nouns of neuter gender. I think we should use “it” to respect the rules of grammar.
On the name of countries we use pronoun “she”.
